Van Gogh and the Cypresses of Provence
Van Gogh became deeply interested in cypress trees during his stay at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum near Saint-Rémy. Their tall, dark silhouettes offered a dramatic contrast with wheat fields and bright Provençal skies.
